Daniel was a 45-year-old statistician who enjoyed paragliding as a hobby on weekends. He was out one afternoon enjoying the beautiful weather when an unexpected wind gust suddenly pushed him into a cliff. His paraglider got caught in a tree and he was left suspended on a rock ledge. Onlookers called 000 and he was rescued by a specialist retrieval team and airlifted to a spinal injuries unit via helicopter. On arrival, a CT scan confirmed he had multiple fractured vertebrae and was showing signs of paralysis from the chest down. His injury was incomplete.
