2. Personal relevance
You must demonstrate that you understand the definition by relating it to your own life. This means providing details about yourself (such as gender, age, religion, upbringing, family) and the beliefs about your selected concept (for example gender) that shaped your life. You do not need to share personal/sensitive information, but must speak about the concept’s relevance to, and impact upon, your life. You might describe someone else in your life to illustrate the concept if, for example, you identify as a woman but you have a sister who identifies as transgender. Identify whether your experiences were broadly traditional or transformative and ensure you use course vocabulary.
3. Proposing a new experience
- Drawing upon the arguments made above, identify two possible new experiences that would allow you to reflect upon the link between the selected concept/category of difference and your life. While you are encouraged to go beyond your comfort zone, you must not do anything illegal or anything that will place you or others at risk of harm or humiliation. There is no need to choose an activity that is expensive.
- Identify one of these new activities that you intend to complete. Explain why your selected activity is a suitable experience in relation to your own life (remember a new experience for one person might not be relevant for another).
- Confirm that you can complete this experience before task 2 is due and provide details of where/when this will occur.
- Provide concluding sentences about your feelings about the proposed activity (for example, how does it make you feel/what are you anticipating.
