Assignment Task:
The aim of the task is to present students with the opportunity to document their artistic vision for a short film – from a director?s point of view – by the use of script mark-up, shot list and story boarding techniques learned through week 3 & 4 of the Making Movies 2 elective (combined with some Making Movies 1 knowledge)
TASK
1. Choose only one of the five screenplays provided on the LMS (see Five Screenplays folder).
2. Print out and mark up the screenplay using the “coverage method” as outlined in Directors Script Weeks 3 & 4.
3. Write out a matching, numbered shot list that conforms to terminology, achievability and clarity as outlined in Directors Script Weeks 3 & 4.
4. The shortlist is only allowed one C/U (close up) or E/C/U (Extreme close up) of the characters’ faces. The placement of this in the script is integral. Take into account the narrative and character journey when making decisions.
5. Storyboard the first six shots only.
6. Provide an approx. A 250-word statement that outlines your decisions as a director with respect to camera movement and shot design, placement of the character?s C/U or E/C/U and color scheme (similar to your Director?s statement from Making Movies 1 but much briefer).
7. Scan all these items into one PDF document.
