Assignment Task:
AIM
The aim of this assessment item is to give you the opportunity to demonstrate your ability to critically analyze, and reflect upon, your experience in the clinical simulation sessions in this course. This task is designed to help you to develop a better understanding of the importance of clinical simulation, and how the skills you learn can be effectively transferred into your nursing practice.
This assessment item will address all three (3) learning outcomes for this course.
Task Description:
Consider the learning that you have participated in during the Clinical Simulation Lab (SimLab) sessions during the intensive teaching period of this course. Using Gibbs’ reflective cycle to guide you, you are required to reflect on your experience in these labs.
For this task, you need to create a narrated PowerPoint presentation no longer than 10 minutes duration.
In your presentation, you will need to:
Describe three (3) specific skills or nursing interventions you performed in your SimLabs;.
1-Myocardial Infraction
2-Post Tracheostomy care
3-Hypoglycemia)
Link each skill or intervention to theNMBA Registered Nurses Standards for Practice (2016);
Identify any interprofessional team members who were also involved in the simulation sessions and explain briefly how these team members might contribute to patient outcomes;
Apply each of the phases of Gibbs’ reflective cycle to reflect on any deficits in your own practice that you identified during the SimLab sessions;
Create an ‘Action Plan’ in the final phase of your reflection that outlines three (3) ‘SMART Goals’that you want to achieve during the clinical placement for this course as an outcome of this task.
You will need to ensure that your narrated PowerPoint presentation aligns with best practice principles for presentations:
Plan the number of slides so you can present within the allocated presentation time (10 minutes) – a rule of thumb is no more than one slide per minute (see Table 1);,
Use a readable font, in a size that can be easily read by your assessor,
Use ‘white space’ appropriately to avoid cluttered slides;,
Have an appropriate level of detail (not too brief, not too detailed);,
Set-up appropriate animation and transition effects so they enhance (not detract) from your presentation;.
Check the recording as it must be able to be heard clearly by your assessor;
Present your narrated PowerPoint in a professional manner using the correct pronunciation of terms, a clear communication style and an audible recording.
