- Nanoparticles do not dissolve after entering the human lungs due to its insoluble nature. Also, its miniature size allows them to pass through the bloodstream which can cause mass poisoning or unwanted neurological effects (Molins, 2018, pp. 1-17).
- Nanoparticles can also affect soils (Thompson & Hannah, 2008, pp. 291-300) by killing more bacteria than fungi and by destroying micro-organisms that are a vital food source for earthworms (Wilson, 2018, p. 241–246).
Thus, the long-term use of nanoparticles can be toxic to humans and the environment.
